Sometimes I yell at my kids.
Sometimes I let them eat candy before dinner.
Sometimes I sit on the floor and play candy land or memory with them.
Sometimes I'm just too tired to play with my kids so I sit on the couch.
Sometimes I do special projects with my kids.
Sometimes I lose my patience with the kids.
Sometimes I want to cry because I can't believe they're getting so big.
Sometimes I smother them in hugs and kisses.
Sometimes I wish they wanted to lay in bed and snuggle their Mommy.
Sometimes I just want a few minutes alone.
Sometimes I worry that they don't know how much I love them.
Sometimes I worry that I don't teach them enough.
Sometimes I read book after book after book to and with them.
Sometimes I take them out to fun places.
Sometimes I don't want to go anywhere.
Sometimes I want to protect them from everything bad that could happen.
Sometimes I worry that I am too protective.

Always I love them.

March of Dimes! Coming Soon.

This Sunday, April 29th is the day our team is walking.

This is the first time I've ever participated in an event of this nature. I'm really looking forward to it.

My sister and brother-in-law started the team "Ethan and Avery's All-Stars" in honor of my niece and nephew born 3 months premature. They have had a long road, especially Ethan, his road was quite a bit rougher and bumpier than Avery's. (If you're interested in learning more about them and the difficult journey we've been on, see my sisters blog HERE )

We have been working hard on raising money to help support the March of Dimes, March for Babies!

It is a phenomenal cause - helping research methods to keep babies from not only being born premature, but to help keep babies alive and healthy.

Would you like to donate? I still have 4 days before our walk!

Do you particpate in any walks?
What type of fundraising do you do?

I am so happy to announce that after 250 long days in the NICU and Children's Hospital my nephew Ethan is finally at home with his twin sister, my niece, Avery and his Mommy & Daddy!

Even though Avery has been the only one that Connor & Paige were able to interact with - they knew all about Ethan and loved him. We showed pictures to them, and talked about him non-stop so they knew they had 2 cousins...

They were so excited to learn that they were going to meet him yesterday!

It was so special for me to watch them with BOTH of their cousins and how naturally the kids interacted...

I think Connor was slightly more hesitant of Ethan at first because of his trach and the wiring that goes along with it - but, he quickly realized Ethan is a regular, moving, silly baby like Avery, and became much more comfortable with him.

It melted my heart to see them all together!

Kids Say the Darndest Things...

Kids say the darndest things...
Hey, that's a great concept, maybe someone should come up with a book or a TV Show, nevermind.

Lately, the more my kids become chatter boxes, the more they have the chance to say some of the sweetest, silliest and just laugh enducing statements! Thought I'd share a few.

"Me love you too much Mommy"

When asked if she was Mommy's Angel, she replied "No Mommy, I'm a Princess right now"

Paige was up very late...basically giving me a run for my money at bedtime and she was quite successful. Somewhere around 9:30 or 10pm I very exasperatedly asked
"Paige why are you still awake?"

Paige: "because my eyes are open"
Paige " do you want to see me close my eyes Mommy?"

Mommy: Yes Paige, Mommy wants you to close your eyes.

Paige closed her eyes, and quickly opened them and said: I want to keep them open.

At dinner I was trying to persuade him to taste a new food (I forget what it was, I think potatoes from a stew) that he was not willing to try....

Mommy: You might say Mmm this is so yummy if you try it
Connor: No Mommy I say its so yuck
Mommy: You will make me so happy if you just try it
Connor: It will make me so sad.

We recently signed him up for a 2-3 yr old soccer program - and he must have recalled that we told him he could play soccer when he gets bigger... After being excited hearing the news about soccer, he had left the room to get something... Upon returning he said: Mommy look at me. I'm bigger now. I play soccer!"

This may be the devils candy. hahaha

Mm is for....

Our rings may be scratched up, lacking a little of their original luster, but heck, they have their battle scars! We've been married almost 5 years (Nov 3!) and through the ups and downs of life.... we've stuck it out, so I guess the scratches all have their tales.

Mommy's Have Melt Downs Too Ya Know.

Hi all... I know its been ages and ages since I posted a real
and I'm hesitant whether or not I really want to share all of this, since I usually stick with the silly, the fluffy, the light hearted...

I know I've mentioned before that Connor has been getting speech services since age 2. I also know I don't really talk about it all too often. He was  Diagnosed with apraxia... to understand more, click on the link- but in a nutshell, its a motor planning delay - his brain is ready to say what he wants, but his muscles, his mouth muscles can't quite make the "shapes" fast enough. As a result, a lot of what he says can be very difficult to understand, he doesn't use full length sentences, proper grammar etc (relative to other kids his age w/out speech concerns. No we don't really expect proper grammar )
He used to be less than 25% intelligible if you were a relative stranger, and even then, I had to translate for family members a lot. He has come so far, and is getting easier and easier to understand - but there are still lots of things he says to me I don't get on the first try, or second...

Well, he's made a LOT of progress, considering at age 2 he didn't speak, barely said "mmm" to point to something... he talks my ear off now! (now, its not articulated correctly, but baby steps, right?!)

Anyway, lately I've been really noticing that hes trying to sing along to songs on the radio, his movies etc... but, he just can't. He can't keep up with the beat... he is really a positive kid and has a great attitude so he doesn't seem to be affected by this -  but for some reason I was so emotional about it this morning... I was on the verge of tears because my heart was sad. I know that its not a huge deal, but it just made me sad today. And I texted 2 of my super duper friends who happen to be Speech therapists and they were comforting, reassuring and supportive (xoxoxo Amy & Mary) I even texted HIS speech therapist because I felt comfortable in doing so.... just to tell her I was sad about it. She reassured me it is a common subject that parents of apraxic kids feel sad/concerned about.

In the end... I really broke down and cried, and cried... and cried about it when I was alone (ok, alone from the kids... some of my coworkers my have witnessed this as I got out of my car) because I just think it "hit" me that he really is far behind in these areas.

I know, I know, it could be worse. Sure it could. And I thank my lucky stars how lucky I am that my kids are my kids... but he's still my son and I'm still his mom and I feel bad he's struggled. The speech issues, his ear issues, all compacted into this...
and I was sad for him that as a preschooler, he can't sing with his friends in class, he can't sing along to silly songs with mommy and Paige... he wants to... but he can't....

And, I had an emotional Mommy meltdown this morning....

Why Doctors LOVE me.

Since getting back from Fl with 2 pneumonia'd kids....
I've since taken Paige back to the Dr with a pneumonia scare -- by "scare" i mean her coughing was starting up again, the nebulizers were going every 4 hours, nothing seemed to take the edge off  -- thankfully it wasn't pneumonia but her asthma is just continually flaring up so the doctor recommended she go see a pulmonologist... So, I got appt for her in April.

Connor continues to complain about his ears... so we "fired" his old ENT, found a new one and loved him. On TUESDAY Connor goes in for a left tube... let's hope the third times a charm because I can't take it.
In addition, I haven't really talked about it but I've been having knee problems for a few months now - and although its minor I am having surgery myself in April on my knee. Which is a big deal because I have a history of knee problems, and already have 3 knee surgeries under my belt. I'm hopeful the Dr is right and that it will be a very short in and out procedure, but there is always the chance that there is more wrong than anticipated....

Work is in its busy time of year with annual reports and IEPs
and I went back to school this semester -- only taking one class right now - but in the midst of work and home life I feel mental.

When Good Vacations Go Wrong

Overall, Florida was great... at first.
We enjoyed 70-80 degree weather
We went to the beach and pool (cold water, but still lovely!)
Went to Tampa Zoo
and then... Paige got so sick we were in ER with her temp and pneumonia (see "Sunny florida" post below)...  then, after being "stuck" there a few extra days than planned (and therefore taking off unplanned time at work)  Paige & I flew home
She went to Dr. for follow up, doing ok, monitoring her- - wants her follow up next week.

Connor & Jason drove home.
they had a temporary car break down late at night in North Carolina (we are now thinking it was a bad tank of the time, stressful and scary though)
Connor went to Dr on Saturday because he had a matching cough to Paige, he has WALKING PNEUMONIA~
oh, and I went to Dr on Friday , beginning signs of bronchitis and red ears (possible start of infections!!)

HOLY MOLY. I want a vacation!!!

Greetings from Sunny? Florida.... (hmph)

so.. we have had a fabulous family trip... I have been coming up with all sorts of cute posts to write about our fun adventures down here!
we were supposed to head home yesterday...
and then this morning...
and we are still here...
my little Paige  was in the ER yesterday with a 104.2 temp and diagnosed with Pneumonia...
they discharged her, thankfully, but she's loaded on meds and has to do her nebulizer treatments (she is asthmatic) every 4 hours so its halted our return trip.
Since we drove down, she isn't quite ready to sit in the car ride home yet.... Jason & I are debating whats the best course of action.
Either Paige & I will fly home tomorrow to get her home quicker (avoiding the car ride) and then we can follow up with her pediatrician --- then the boys will have a road trip of their own.
OR we will all load up in the car tomorrow and hope for the best.... and take our time....
All week long i've been teasing how I wasn't returning to NY and now I feel trapped here.
WHY can't I even catch a break on vacation?

"You Can Tell Me Anything"

Recently I've been trying to really teach my kids that "you can (and should) feel safe to tell Mommy & Daddy anything..."
I realize its a big concept, but if we start talking about it now then if (hopefully never) something ever comes up they will feel comfortable approaching us.
Anyway... I've mentioned this a few times in passing, emphasizing "you won't get in trouble for sharing something important with Mommy & Daddy...."

It usually falls upon what I observe to be deaf ears, but, eventually the message will get there.

Well, just the other night I was telling Connor "Mommy wants you to know you can tell her secrets if you are ever worried about telling me something. You can feel safe to talk to Mommy and you won't get in trouble."...
Connor blushed and said "mommy I want to tell you something"
Mommy: Ok Connor, come here, lets talk...
Connor -- he slowly walked over to me, hugged me and whispered
I looked at him, stunned for a minute... I know he was NOT calling me that... but, I guess I was surprised that was the first secret we started with.
and he said "Mommy says that word to Daddy sometimes..."

Ohhh...boy.... Good Job Mommy.
I asked for it.
I got it.
I couldn't tell him NOT to use those words, because I just TOLD him he should feel safe talking to me.
So... I said
"Yes, Connor, sometimes Mommy says bad words when she's talking to Daddy. Sometimes Mommy forgets to use nice words... But, Mommy is proud of you for sharing that with me."

And... guess my plan worked.
Sort of.

Where I Went...

Yesterday was a busy, busy day.
I didn't go to work.
I did take Connor to the pediatrician -- ear infection, again, ugh.
I did take myself to the doctor - bronchitis - ugh.
I did go to the pharmacy for our medications....
and I spent a lot of time laying in bed watching TV and reading.

However, later that night, I took a special trip. Two special trips in fact.

Paige and I boarded an airplane, to be flown by Captain Connor, and off we went to the beach.
We flew and flew on our plane (otherwise known as the staircase) until we reached "the beach".
Captain Connor handed the passengers our necessities - sunscreen and bathing suits and we went to explore our beach!
I even got to lay out on the beach (aka couch) and suntan while the kids brought me smoothies and refreshed my sunscreen so I don't burn!
Even in imaginary play, my kids are health conscious!
I was suddenly interrupted in my tanning by an announcement "Mommy! Get on the plane! Beach is finshed!"
I had to get on..or I'd be left forever.

Well, we took a very long flight... much longer than necessary in mommy's opinion! and we got to the jungle! This was a very special jungle... before we got off the plane Connor stepped out, and Ninja kicked the "bad bugs" for us and he fought off a few hippos as well.

Before Paige and I got off, Connor gave us our Bug spray (see, health conscious!) and he grabbed his map (a little square of scrap paper)... off we go!
We went to see the monkeys, and Connor checked that off his list "Monkey check"
We trekked further into the jungle, and saw the giraffes... Connor remembered giraffes are my favorite-- "mommy you like giraffes!"...
Our jungle journey continued... we saw ducks. Yes, ducks in our jungle. They were in the pond. "ducks check"
Then, Connor informed me, it was time for the jungle show!!! So,we took front row seats to watch the hippo, monkey and giraffes perform. Told ya this was a special jungle! The best part of the show was when my kids started acting out what the animals do... so they were jumping, rolling and doing whatever it is our jungle animals do. The show even had a surprise appearance by an elephant!

Our beach and jungle trips tired sick Mommy out... so I informed Captain Connor I was ready to fly back home to lay down... and before I knew it, our trip came to an end... and I was back home in my PJs.

Family Portrait.

No, we didn't go get our photograph done.
I commissioned a budding new artist to draw our portrait.

Years from now people will admire this in the Guggenheim, or the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or perhaps Le Louvre.

Presenting.... an original masterpiece, by Connor entitled "family portrait"

He added in family members from right to left, (yes, he is unconventional in his artistry...)
See the key below to fully understand his incredible talent:

#1 Connor, the artist. He says he has "long legs like Daddy"
#2 Mommy. She has medium legs.
#3 Daddy. Daddy has long legs.
#4 Ma (great grandma). She has little legs.
#5 Paige She has little legs too. Her hair is up tall.

Miss Independent. Miss Bossypants. Miss Paige.

Paige is independent.
Way too independent for a 2 year old if you ask me.
At least, way too independent for my 2 year old.

I know, I know, its a positive thing she wants to do things by herself, try to learn new skills yadda yadda yadda ... but, I thought I had a little time left to baby her.

Putting PJs on? "NO Mommy, I do it myself!"
So... I let her pull her pants up, and try to get her PJ shirt on... her arm got a little twisted as she tried to put the shirt on, so I helped her out a little by untangling the sleeve... well, she got mad. And said "NO MOMMY I DO IT MYSELF!" and pulled her arm back out of her PJs, as if it would erase the fact that I helped her...and redid it herself.

On selecting a drink: (note the reason for my alleged milk cruelty is because Paige often substitutes milk for food because she drinks way too much milk daily, so I am trying to cut down on her milk intake)
M: "Paige would you like some juice or water"
P: "Milk"
M: "No Paige, you already had a big cup of milk earlier, you can have some juice or water"
P: "I want milk"
M: "No milk. Juice or water"
P: "Milk'
M: "Paige, NO MILK. Juice or water"
P: "I want milk"
M: "Juice or water"
P: "Milk"
M: "Ok Paige, does that mean you don't want a drink"
P: "I want juice"

And, finally, on her name....
the other day she was telling me what to do  making her needs known I said "Boy Paige, you're bossy!" to which she replied... "Me not bossy, me Paige!"

March of Dimes - March for Babies!

Hi Everyone....
I have registered to participate in this year's March for Babies to raise money and awareness for the
work that March of Dimes does to promote healthy babies. My sister and brother in law have started a
team called "Ethan & Avery's All-Stars" and will be walking in honor of our precious preemies, my niece and nephew.

The money we raise will support March of Dimes research and programs that help moms have full-
term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. It will also be used to bring comfort and information tofamilies with a baby in newborn intensive care. Any little bit helps....

If you would like to help by donating money to March of Dimes March for Babies please visit my
personal page at::
Donations can also be made by check or cash if that is your preference.

I appreciate all of your support - and thank you for giving babies a healthy start!!!
