Day 30 -- Cars!

This last post is about cars -past, present and future!

My current car is a  2007 Ford Escape ::

Although, the hubster often has to use it for work so I drive his car -2006 Honda Civic -

And, some of my past cars::::

2006 saturn ion 2

1996 VW Passat -- I LOOVED this car
but I can't find a picture of what mine looked like -- most 96 Passats had a more rounded front, yet mine had a more square (like a Jetta) and it was awesome.

Day 29 -- Projection for the next year

What are my hopes, dreams, wishes for the next 365 days??

I don't ask for much....
I hope that my kids continue to grow and thrive happily and healthily throughout the year -
I hope that Connor's progression with his speech (and Speech Therapy) continues at such a strong, upward rate -- he's been doing a wonderful job so far!
I am looking forward to the possibility of going back to school in the fall - just part time, I want to extend my current teaching certification and will need a few more classes to do so.
I am dreaming of becoming an Aunt (not that there's any buns in any ovens!)

Overall... just happy kids, healthy kids --
happy husband and wife...

like i said -- nothing glamourous -- just the things that make our world turn and we can figure everything else out as we go along...

Although, more money will never hurt.

Day 28 - What's in my purse?!

Well... I try not to put too much into my purse but that never really works out as well as planned. However, if I'm going out and about with the kids, I'll often toss my wallet into the diaper bag instead of toting around tons of bags...

On a morning before work, however, there's likely to be interesting things in there because in order to remember to bring something to work I often toss it into my purse!

The items in my purse are:
  • my wallet
  • an agenda from an after school meeting held yesterday
  • sunglasses
  • ibuprofen
  • pocket calendar
  • coupon folder
  • 1 hair clip
  • 1 hair rubberband
  • 1 tide to go pen
  • 2 chapsticks and 1 lip gloss
  • 8 cents
  • 5 pens
  • a netflix dvd (that I need to mail on my way out)
  • a Shrek Dvd (i promised a student I'd bring it so we can watch today)

Not bad, huh?

Day 27 - My Worst Habit.

I think my worst habit is definately biting my nails. Ew, yes, I know. I've done it forever - much to my father's chagrin...
I am not one of the nail biters whose nails are so short and ugly looking - - in fact, most times, you'd probably never even know I'm a biter just by looking at my finger nails... Not that it makes it better - but, its what I justify the habit with!

Wordless Wednesday -- Kitty Cat Love (featuring Julius & Shea)

Day 26 - My week in Great Detail...

I'm not sure how exciting my week is -- but here goes my week so far:
Sunday - 1/23 Unfortunately, much of Sunday was spent visiting Jason's great Aunt Laura in the hospital. She had been quite ill and we knew her time was limited so I had some help with the kids (thanks to a special friend, Thanks Christina! and my stepfather!!)... Unfortunately, at the end of the night Aunt Laura passed away.... but we know we spent her last day with her and she was not alone.

Monday - 1/24 I ended up staying home this day - spent some time with the kids so Jason's family could gather themselves and make arrangements for Aunt Laura (Jason's family are the ones who watch Connor & Paige on a daily basis). I got some cleaning done and later on I did go to the doctor because I hadn't been feeling well, and I have an Upper Respiratory Infection.
At night -- I spent a nice evening snuggling in bed with Connor & Paige watching "Oliver & Company" and "Monsters, Inc" on DVD

Tuesday - 1/25  I *thought* that I had woken up late for work and SURPRISE!! I had a 2 hour delay due to snow/slushy driving conditions! This was fantastic because I didn't feel well still and I got to work a shorter day. After work I went to Jason's grandmothers house but rather than picking the kids up I hung out for a while and Jason brought pizzas over for dinner. Jason's other great aunt is in town from Reno, NV so it was nice to visit with her for a while -- unfortunately it was under sad circumstances that she flew in.
At night -- I spent a nice evening snuggling in bed with Connor & Paige watching "Oliver & Company" on DVD

Wednesday - 1/26 (today) We had a full day of school today- but it was pretty low key. Everyone's been anticipating the snow storm that is supposed to be headed our way (uggh again) although it seems as if no one really knows how much it is we're anticipating! I went to pick up the kids after work and hung out for about an hour with "Ma" (jasons grandma) and Aunt Lee (the aunt visiting from Reno) - we had some tea, ate brownies and cupcakes... before I went home.

So, a pretty uneventful week, but a busy one nonetheless.

Day 25 - Guilty Pleasure

A guilty pleasure is something one enjoys and considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. The "guilt" involved is sometimes simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes. Fashion, music,[1] and junk food can be examples of guilty pleasures (wikipedia)

So.... where do I begin? My guilty pleasures are:

  • Dunkin Donuts Coffee
  • Ice Cream! (and I do love Dairy Queen but I'll take what I can get!)
  • um, most junk food.
  • Reality TV! I love watching ridiculous shows that probably kill brain cells just from putting on the TV to their channel but I don't care! Some of my favorites include:
    • Teen Mom/ 16 & Pregnant
    • Celebrity Rehab
    • Project Runway
    • American Idol
I'm sure there are others. ;0)

Day 24 - Where I live.

Well... why is where I live special? I live in NY - less than 2 hours away from NYC... My area is considered the Hudson Valley -- theres a lot of history in the area, there are tons of spots to enjoy nature - hiking, camping, apple picking, to name just a few!

More specifically - I live about 45 min away from my hometown (also in the HV area) in a smaller town where my husband grew up. This is the town he grew up in, went to school, has all of his friends, family and their friends too!

Day 23- A youtube video

Well... ha ha ha ... this gives me free reign - do I pick a sappy youtube video that is sure to make everyone cry? Or a silly, stupid, nonsensical video??

Then... of course.... I  choose DOUBLE RAINBOW!

Day 22 - Websites.

I'll just list my favorite websites here -- the ones that I frequent... how 'bout that?

  • Facebook
  • Gmail
  • blogger - for my own blog, and to read other blogs I follow
  • shutterfly
  • The Nest
  • twitter
  • google
Those are my main "sites" I go to -- of course not the only ones!

Day 21 - A recipe

I got this recipe from my mom - she always uses it as her "go to" recipe for pot lucks, or things like that. This holiday season I had a few events that I needed to make a quick, easy and DELICIOUS dessert recipe -- so I will share it with you!

Mom’s Famous Easy One-Dish
BLUEBERRY-PINEAPPLE COBBLER
Ingredients:
16 oz. can of crushed pineapple
Can of Comstock Blueberry Pie Filling (or any reputable brand)
Box of Duncan Hines Yellow Cake Mix (or any reputable brand)
2 sticks butter (1/2 lb.)
Cool Whip – Optional
Lightly grease 9 x 13” pan
Spread pineapple on bottom of pan with fork – don’t use extra juice
Spread blueberry pie filling on top of pineapple (better to spoon on in small piles so you
can evenly and lightly spread)
Sprinkle whole box of cake mix on top
Melt ½ lb. (2 sticks) butter - Pour over top ( I use a small gravy ladle for better coverage)
Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour (only needs 45 minutes if oven is
accurate. Fruit will be bubbling and top should be golden brown.)
Serve w Cool whip - Optional

Day 20 - a Hobby

I think I could say I have 2 main hobbies -- writing and taking pictures.

I have always written in some form - in a diary, poetry journal, now blog... I just love the ability to express whatever I want in writing. That is definitely a hobby of mine.

I'd also say a hobby of mine is taking pictures. I don't have a fancy camera, nor have I ever taken any formal photography classes but it doesn't matter .... I love capturing different events, images, etc on camera to save for the future!

Day 19 - A talent

**Pardon how far behind I've fallen... our computer broke (a la Paige) and we borrowed my moms temporarily until we can either fix the other one or buy a new one!**

Day 19 - a talent of yours.
Um.. i'm not quite sure what to write for this one.
Honestly.
 I can't sing, I can't draw, I can't do impersonations...

I really have to say I am without a special talent.

Which makes me boring. blah

Day 18 - My Wedding

My wedding took place November  3, 2007 at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. We had our beautiful ceremony and reception there. It was a cold day, but, we were surrounded by our loving family and friends and it didn't matter how cold it was- -- we didn't let that stop the day!

Day 17- An Art Piece

In general, Vincent Van Gogh is my favorite artist... I absolutely love his painting Starry Night

I just love the colors and texture found within the painting...

this is probably my favorite piece of artwork.

Day 16 - A Song That Makes You Cry (the real post)

The first song that came to mind makes me cry for happy reasons...not sad reasons.

It was the song I danced to with my father at my wedding... and it has a lot of meaning to me - its "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Israel  Kamakawiwo╩╗ole.

As a little girl I watched The Wizard of Oz so many times it is uncountable... At one point my dad bought me a little rainbow mirror that had my name across the bottom -- and when you turned the sun it played "somewhere over the rainbow"

So...the daunting task of selecting a Father/Daughter dance song... well, that is what we danced to!

Then...while I was pregnant with Connor, we (Jason and I) would often play this song on our ipods for him to "hear" in my belly (and then Mommy would dance with Connor to the song after he was born)... and it always made me cry!

Therefore, without a doubt, that's the song that makes me cry.
**Youtube will not grant me access to embed the video so here's the link in case you'd care to have a  listen***

Day 15: Your Role Model

Is it sad that I don't have a role model? I mean, I'm certainly not going to say some sports star who makes bajillions of dollars when they don't cure ailments, or better the world in a substantial way...

But I dont think that there is one person I've ever looked at as a role model

However, there are characteristics I've observed and admired in people that have been a part of my life that I have tried to emulate in my own personality. And, I'd like to think I've taken bits and pieces of my parents and grandparents and tried to turn them into my own character because I've been supported and surrounded by some "real good people" <3

Day 14- A Non-Fictional Book.

I think my favorite Non-fictional book is Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl

Ive read this book as a teenager and adult and still find the diary entries pull at my heartstrings just as strongly after each read...

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Day 13 - A Fictional Book.

Well, the topic doesn't exactly specify if I'm supposed to pick my favorite (which is probably assumed) or a least favorite fictional book. So... perhaps I'll talk about both.

Some of my FAVORITE fictional books are:

I love this series! I just like to get taken away to Hogwarts and be surrounded by magical, mystical IMAGINARY things that can just take my mind off of anything and everything.

One of my LEAST favorite fictional books???

Honestly...I read this in High School and hated it. And, no, not the typical High Schooler that hates all books assigned to be read - because, that was really not the case -- but this book?? I know its a classic, blah blah blah, but not for me.

Wordless Wednesday - snow helpers

Day 12- something you are OCD about

I am not sure...
I used to do more OCDish things in the past like not being able to sleep if my mattress and box spring weren't adjusted and lined up properly. I think this stemmed from being in college with crapass beds that if the mattress wasn't lined up properly you'd feel like you were about to fall off!

Lately Im lazy and unorganized and messy -- so total anti-OCD traits!

Day 11 - a photo of you recently

These photo ones are making me post more photos of myself than I typically care to!

A recent photo of me... hm....well, I will share two... and they both happen to feature some of my favorite pesudo-family members!!

this picture was taken with my self-proclaimed sisters (DECIDED!) Alyssa & Cara at Alyssa's Sweet 16 party in August!

This picture is my ladies at work, also some of my besties, and my reason for having the little mental stability that's left! This was taken in December!

Day 10 - a photo of you taken over 10 yrs ago

This is clearly more than 10 years ago!!
This photo was taken in 1983- - I was 3 years old --
it was in my Grandpa and Grandma's house in Queens. Anytime I'd go visit -- I'd spend so much time playing with Grandma's jewelry, purses and shoes!

Sunday, January 9, 2011

Day 9 - a photo I took.

Well, I take about 95% of the photos I share on here are photos I have taken -- so I'll challenge the challenge and share a  recent picture OF ME that I didn't take because those are far and few between.

I will share this picture of me and my sister Kelley - its from April, at her rehearsal dinner!

I figured this is an appropriate photo to share since its Kelley's birthday today! Happy Birthday Sissaroo!

Saturday, January 8, 2011

Day 8 - a photo that makes you angry/sad

The photo (well, 2 photos) I chose are from last January. They are 2 photos from when Paige was sent to the hospital for 3 nights/4 days due to bronchiolitis... (If you aren't familiar with this story check it out here)

She was only two months old... hooked up to all sorts of monitors and machines and was just too tiny to be laying in that big old hospital bed... so, here are 2 photos that make me sad.

Day 7 - a photo that makes your heart melt.

Oooh boy... How can I pick? I really have a few photos that I really find "heart melt worthy"... so this is difficult to select just one and exclude the others.

However...the one I picked, of Connor laying with Daddy -- was a candid shot, in fact, I'm not sure if Jason even knows I took the photo -- and something about the moment does indeed, melt my heart.

Wordless Wednesday --New Year's Eve Party!

Day 5 - Your favorite quote

My favorite quote actually comes from a random French film I saw with one of my friends while in high school. The movie was called "La Haine" (hatred) and I remember nothing of the plot of the movie anymore. I just have always loved the meaning behind the tag line from it -- and feel like its a good quote to remember when things get "sticky" (it may also be worth it to mention I took about 7 yrs of french language so I really enjoyed learning things in/about the language which may be why I took such a liking to this quote -- the way it sounds when rolled off the tongue, the meaning...etc)

jusqu'ici tout va bien - (so far, so good)

But, really... So far, so good....

Life is hard - and I struggle with many things from time to time (finances, work, managing my busy life)- but I  have 2 beautiful, healthy kids, a husband, good friends, loving family, etc -- but over all, jusqu'ici tout va bien.

Day 4- Your Favorite Book.

My favorite book... this is tough.
I have many favorite books - for many reasons.
I do think I have to pick a children's book.

The reason I selected this book is because it has an emotional appeal to me... the book is a sweet, simple book for babies/young children about the unconditional love a mother (parent) feels for their kid.

When I was first pregnant with Connor - Jason and I had gone into Barnes and Noble to walk around and we started to browse the children's book section. When I picked this book up from the shelf I read it and started crying in the middle of the store! I was a hormonal, first time pregnant mamma thinking of reading that book to her son --

I read this book almost every night -both by my choice and request of Connor. I read it with Paige as well now -- it is my favorite book by far.

Blog Challenge -Day 3: Favorite Teacher

Well, that's easy... my favorite teacher -- is ME!!!!!!!
haha ok, seriously though?

I am not going to pick a school teacher. Contrary to what the intended purpose of the challenge was - I have had many teachers throughout my life- in school and out of school.

My favorite teacher was/is my dad.

My dad was the dad who always made me "look it up in the dictionary", or "lets look at the map".... you know...when you just want the answer FAST but now you have to whip out the gigantic sized dictionary (with no pictures!) and look up the stupid word...yeah...

But guess what-- I'm an awesome speller. Yes, I am.
Ok, I'm horrible with maps. Horrible!
I'm a great reader- and love doing it too... and in the end, the purpose was not only to make me find out for myself (which is something I do with my students every day -- encourage them to try/do things themselves) but, whatever the "lesson" was we were working on- -was an extra 5 minutes of together time instead of being interrupted by the TV.

So, in the end, he taught me to think for myself... or to TRY at least.
He was the one who wanted to sit with me and do my projects, homework, and even study for GREs as a college graduate! I'm sure if I had homework now he'd be happy to help me understand the assignment.
That's why my dad is my favorite teacher.

Blog Challenge Day 2 - your definition of success

Well, according to wikipedia Success is defined as: Success may mean, but is not limited to:

SUCCESS

a level of social status

achievement of an objective/goal

the opposite of failure

Which, isn't too far off from my definition.... but, mine is a little more personal.
My definition of success is achieving a desire. Sure, the desire could be an objective, a goal, a wish, whatever... but achieving it....and maintaining it.

For me, I have been a wife, a mother of 2 wonderful little children and a full time teacher of special needs students. Being able to manage these things is my definition of success. Its hard enough to be a wife. Its hard enough to be a special education teacher. And, its absolutely hard enough to be a mother of two toddlers. Yet... I do it all, I manage it all, and each day when I go to sleep knowing I was a good wife, a good teacher and a great (I hope) mother .... then I know it was a successful day.

To do it too follow the link at the bottom of this post, and credit their blog and GO! Enjoy the next 30 days!!

Day 1: Your Biggest Accomplishment.

I guess I just have to say that my "biggest" accomplishment is graduating with my Masters Degree in Elementary Education.

Why didn't I say motherhood or my children? Well, simple, I work hard at that every day, and, I'm not "done" mothering them yet, so I can't say its a completed accomplishment!

However, receiving my Masters Degree was something I had to go to night classes for (I was working as a teacher during the day) and also had to complete my papers and my thesis before graduating with my Masters Degree in 2006. It was hard work, but I stuck through it, and in the end, accomplished my goal!
