Meow?

Connor, my dear son...
I know you love our kitty cats.
I know you want to feed them treats because you love sitting next to them and petting them.
I know you like to pretend you are a cat...
However...
You Are Not A Cat.
Please stop eating the treats with the cats.
You have learned time and time again that you DO NOT like cat treats. You spit them back out EVERY time you eat them.
Mommy and Daddy can't tell you enough "Stop eating those treats!"
Mommy has even tried giving you Cheerios when we give the cats their treats.
We have even tried NOT giving the cats their treats when you're running around.
But inevitably, you find a way to be a cat but...
You Are Not A Cat.

Ode to the Vacuum

This is the exact model that saved my life these last few colic filled months. Yes...the running vacuum was the ONLY, I repeat ONLY thing that soothed Paige... and now that the colic seems to be ending (thank heavens!!!) I find it only appropriate to bid a fond farewell to my nightly friend -- the Hoover Wind Tunnel.

#1 A Haiku

Vacuum, I love you
Without you I'd be loony
You have saved my life

#2 A Haiku

The loud hum, hum, hum
All of the crying has stopped
Hum, hum, hum, shhh, shhh

#3 A Limerick

There once was a cute little vacuum
Whose loud obnoxious hum did make me swoon
For without any power
My life would have gone sour
And I'd end up in the psych ward too soon

#4 An Acrostic Poem

Very noisily sitting in my living room
Always there when we needed it the most
Constant humming soothed the baby
Usually sent her right off to dreamland
Unable to hold a normal conversation over the sound
My go to appliance for sanity

Thank you Hoover Wind Tunnel, thank you.

Sitting back to appreciate

Before life with 2 under 2 I had more time to sit and relish in the delight of being a mom. Now that we have 2 - its just hard to find those quiet moments to reflect on how lucky I really am. There are many days where it is difficult - the kids are only 13 mos apart (Connor is approaching 17 mos old and Paige is 3.5 mos old). It's not much of a surprise that my little peanut was a surprise, but she has brought so much extra love and joy to our little family that what they say is true -- good things come in small packages.

In day to day life - we're so busy catching Connor from jumping off the couch head first or trying to stop him from dragging the cats across the floor by their tails while we're trying to rock/feed/soothe an infant. And, to top it all off, Paige hasn't been the easiest of babies - extreme colic, lots of sicknesses including her hospital visit - so needless to say - the first few months as a 4some were quite stressful and hectic. I tried to find those little moments to give extra hugs and kisses to each of them and spend some one-on-one time when possible.

However - just today - after being snowed in for the 3rd day in a row - I was feeding Paige and enjoying her contentment in my arms. I was also just watching Connor sit on the floor, eating his snack like a big boy and watching some cartoons. And suddenly, I was tearing up. I just felt such a strong wave of love and "oh my gosh this is my family". It was such a quiet moment that I was really able to sit back and appreciate how much love we have in this house.

I will store that moment to refresh my memory in the midst of a crying baby and a whining toddler tugging at my leg when I feel like "I can't do this!!!!!" I will remember how much I am lucky to know that soon I'll have two little trouble makers running around this place and that every single minute of it - good and bad- really has been worth it.

What's For Breakfast??

Mommy has another snow day today!!

That means, I was a little more laid back with any sort of routine. However, Connor did get his usual cup of milk and cup of Cheerios to snack on while I fed the baby and took a few minutes to get his "real" breakfast ready.

However...this morning, he decided milk & Cheerios weren't going to cut it. He kept pointing to the kitchen, signaling that he wanted something in there, however, I just couldn't figure out what exactly it was that he wanted.

Well, he clearly had no patience for me to figure it out and took matters into his own hands...
<-- He stole the pizza box off the top of the stove after he saw Daddy grab a cold slice for breakfast.... <--Then he ran off into the living room with his new "find" to try and get away before we could take the pizza back!!! <--However, he was really eating the pizza for breakfast....how could I take it away?? <-- He was so pleased with himself! So, yes, I'm a terrible mother for allowing pizza for breakfast... haha, but you know what? It kept him entertained for 5 minutes while I finished feeding Paige and got his "real" breakfast of scrambled eggs -- which he enjoyed so thoroughly they're all over the place....

Wish List Wednesday

For my wish this week...I wish...that I could have a shopping spree in a Coach Store or Outlet. I'd love to get all frivolous items with the Coach brand name on them. (Items that I have in other, not so fashionable name brands...)

Coach Sneakers - in this color scheme (it matches the purse I have)

Coach Diaper Bag!!! (I really would love one of these...)

and maybe even Coach Sunglasses (ok, these are the most "realistic" but...I don't own a pair, so I'd like them)

What a load of crap!

Literally.

I changed 7 poopy diapers in 2 hours.

Normally I am thrilled, almost giddy, when Paige has a dirty diaper because she tends to have such bad issues with her stomach that when she poops I know she won't be in discomfort for the rest of the night.

However...3 from her and 4 from Connor.

For a stretch of 2 hours this house was like a poop factory.

Jason was dumping garbage bags in the dumpster just as fast as the kids were dirtying up those diapers!!!!!!

Seriously kids?

What did you eat today???

3 months!!! plus one day!

Ok, well some of you know I TRULY had her 3 month photos taken yesterday but I was holding out on this post until her 'well-baby' visit at the pediatrician today so I could post some updated stats as well.

She weighs in at 11.5 lbs and is 23 inches tall -- that puts her in the 50th percentile for height and weight.

The doctor said she looks and sounds healthy~! YAY~! Her lungs are totally clear - so we can stop using the nebulizer treatments for now and see how she does with that.

It's great to finally get a clean bill of health for my little peanut.

Of course Connor couldn't resist joining in on the action -- you can see him creeping more and more into the photos -- he absolutely HATED that Paige had a headband on her head and tried very hard to get it off of her!

The Explorer in my House

It's not Internet Explorer...

...It's not Dora The Explorer either...

It's Connor, the Trash Can Explorer!!!!!

He puts things in that don't belong in the trash can (shoes, toys, socks...) and takes out the things that belong in there! (empty juice bottles, napkins, plates etc...)

it was so bad I dont even have a title for it

Last night... it was probably the worst moment in my book as a mom.
One of those nights that I probably shouldn't "record" the memory of - but I am venting, admitting, releasing... and BREATHING...

I will start it off by saying I've had a horrendous head cold all weekend and I am very, very tired so my tolerance for anything was probably low to begin with...

However...

Last night Paige was screaming, screaming, screaming.... I am normally pretty good and patient and the one who spends the most time soothing her. Last night, I COULD NOT...I just didn't have it in me. Jason, quickly observed this and took the baby from me and told me "just go" because he knew I needed to walk away.

So, I went upstairs shut myself in the bedroom to watch DVR'd episodes of Project Runway. Meanwhile, the cat is stepping in front of me, on me, nudging me, stepping in front of me, on me... etc... I was FREAKING OUT! I needed SPACE! I was claustrophobic in my house last night.

Connor - crying, whining, - too early for bed but oh man he was tired.

I seriously thought I was going to lose.my.shit last night. I don't know what happened...I just cracked last night. I finished watching my shows... Paige finally settled down, Connor went to bed - Cried for a bit in protest - but he eventually settled down. And the cats started to annoy me less too...

But before that...I just wanted to run.
Luckily Jason saw my frustration peak and just sent me to time out....
Of course, later on once all was quiet and Paige was cooing and smiling at us I cried -- because I always cry and feel guilty for ever reaching such a high frustration level...

but I was going mental last night - and it was so bad I don't even have a name for it.

Busy Weekend!

I feel like I have so much to post but I don't know where to begin! I haven't even posted about little Miss Paige's baptism from LAST weekend!! yikes!

But, I will give that a post of its own... for now I'll stick to the crazy weekend we had this weekend! I had a 4 day weekend from work - (yahoo!!!!!) so all 4 of us were able to spend lots of time together.

Friday -- Connor got his first hair cut!! We took him to the local barbershop "Jack's". Jack has been cutting Jason's hair for a bajillion years so Daddy wanted his little boy to follow in his footsteps! Connor was great, seemed a little unsure but was comforted by how calm and easy going Jack was - and not to mention Daddy held him the whole time!!!

BEFORE

DURING!!!!!
AFTER!!!

Saturday - Connor got a trip to NYC with Mommy and Daddy -- we went to visit Aunt Kelley & Uncle Steve and Roxy (their cute little pug - my fur neice)
Then, he went w/mom dad and aunt kelley to see Sesame Street Live "When Elmo Grows Up!" at Madison Square Garden! Following the show he visited FAO Schwarz and got a few things to bring home for himself and Paige! A busy busy day in the city for him, but what a big boy he was!

Sunday - family day!!! spent the whole day together Running errands, having lunch out together, just a family!!!

Monday- spend most of the morning with Grammy & Grandpa Ted at home (Mommy and Daddy were there too!!) and then had a busy afternoon full of more errands!!

Learning "no"

Now that Connor knows the concept of "No" I'm in trouble...
He doesn't really say it - but he sure shakes his head "No" when he doesn't want something.

Mommy: "Connor ready to take a bath?"
Connor : shakes head no
Mommy: "But you love baths...don't you want to take a bubble bath?"
Connor: shakes head no
and this goes on...and on...until finally he gets a bath anyway...with resistance.

This morning he was in his high chair eating cheerios, french toast sticks and drinking milk.. he started playing more than eating (usually a sure fire sign he's finished)... So....

Mommy: "Are you finished?"
Connor: shakes head no but continues to play with food, not eat
Mommy: "If you're playing you're all done..." and I reach for food plate
Connor: shakes head no, and YELLS!!!!
Mommy: "ok, then eat if you're not done..."
Connor: eats a bite, goes back to playing with food...
Mommy: "Stop playing. You're done"
Connor: shakes head no, eats another bite.... a minute later...hands me the plate.
Why??? it was on his terms...
grrrrrrr
