I'm not ready.

Connor will be 6 months old tomorrow (yes, I'll do his monthly photo shoot) but I'm not ready for it.
There are so many changes going on with him --
  • he's starting to grow a nice head of hair
  • he's teething! (I'm not ready for him to have teeth! that makes him a big boy!)
  • he can sit up fairly well unsupported (although he tends to wobble over after too long)
  • he's scooting himself around on the floor (a modified type of crawl...)

I'm just NOT ready for a 6 month old...what happened to my teeny tiny 6 lb boy?

Why Babies Take Naps

It is actually NOT for them to rest.

Nor is it for them to grow.

It is to make up to their parents for being awake from 3-5 a.m.

When you (a parent) are exhausted beyond belief and cranky in the middle of the day because your little one kept you up all night... you can not be angry or upset with the little darlings when you peek over the crib and see them napping away looking like angels.

And that, is why babies take naps.

First Fever

My little guy has a low grade fever tonight. I feel so sorry for him that he's feeling lousy. I'm not quite sure what the cause of his fever is either because there are a few variables in the mix.

He had his 6 month shots today, he has a runny nose and lots of sneezing AND he is teething - all of which can cause a low fever.

I just hope it doesn't get any higher and that he feels better soon.

How'd You Get There?

So, Mommy's little man has learned the art of scooting. It is so cute to watch him scoot himself across the floor, knowing that wherever he was put down to play will NOT be where he ends up.
It's especially cute (and funny) because he scoots backwards, not forwards! I try to set up barriers in certain areas to prevent him from going underneath end tables, chairs etc...but I'm not always so successful with my preventative measures...

Back From the Doctor!

We're back...
Everything is fine (as suspected, but Mommy feels better!)
It is Cradle Cap and the doctor told me the name of a good shampoo to use on Connor's head 2x a week to help clear it up.

So...all in all, it was what I thought but at least I know a better way to clear it up.
And, Connor LOVES the doctor's office anyway -- watch the video clip below.

Trip to the Doctor's

It's not so much a trip to the doctor for Connor as it is for Mommy.
I will feel better when we go there.
He has had a few dry patches on his scalp and face for quite a while now. I've used different lotions, and lately, I have been using Aquaphor on the patches and seen some nice improvements.
However, the past few days I have noticed these patches are getting larger and more red. (This Doesn't make Mommy happy!)
This morning when I got up and was feeding him his bottle, the patch on the crown of his head had gotten even larger, and is very red and icky looking.
It's probably just cradle cap or eczema - but either way - its clear that the cream I'm using just isn't cutting it. So, in order to know for sure, Mommy got an appointment this morning to find out.

Will post after the visit.

Where is Thumbkin? He ain't here.

I'm quite sure most of you are familiar with the fingerplay "Where Is Thumbkin" (the one where you name each "member" of your hand and bring them out to greet one another...yeah, that one).

So, Connor normally enjoys this fingerplay because he is interested in the movment of my hands and my fingers going back and forth and up and down.

Last night, we were all set up to play on the floor when I thought it would be a nice time to do this with him...

Mommy sings: Where is Thumbkin? Where is Thumbkin?
Here I am! (Brings out right thumb) Here I am! (Brings out left thumb....)

and...instead of moving on to the next line of the song -- Connor thought it would be a better idea to grab my hand and try to shove my thumb into his mouth! I laughed, of course...but kept on singing...

Mommy sings, again: (wiggling right thumb) How are you today sir....
(wiggling left thumb) Very well.....
and thumb is once again grabbed by Connor and stuck into his mouth.

Hmmm...this activity is getting rather difficult since we're still only on Thumbkin and we have 4 more fingers to go, plus the whole hand!

Mommy sings, yet again: (puts right hand behind back) Run away....
(puts left hand behind back) Run away...
Where is Pointer? Where is Pointer?
Here I am! (Brings out Right pointer finger)
and then once again the game is stopped by Connor's chew time... so clearly, Thumbkin was not welcome here last night!

5 months (and a few days!)

Connor Joseph is 5 months old!!
Yes, I'm a few days behind...
At his 5 month doctor's visit he weighed in at 17 pounds 1 ounce.
He is 25 1/4 inches in length.
He's growing so big and strong!
Aw, my little guy is becoming such a big boy full of personality!
