If Babies Could Roll Their Eyes...

Then my son definitely rolled his at me last night.

We were watching American Idol as a family and I was holding the baby.
One of the contestants sang a "not so hot" rendition of the song Loving' You (by Minnie Riperton) --
So when the show went to commercial break I decided to do my best singing the song as well, I was all into the "la la la la la's" and not only did Mr. E tell me to "shut it" but I looked down at Connor's face and he did the 4 month old version of an eye roll - as if to tell me "Yeah Mom, listen to Daddy and shut it!"

I'm telling you -- if babies could roll their eyes, that is definitely what I got!

(by the way, did I mention my singing talent greatly Lacks the talent component?!)

Oh Glowworm!

What do you do with a Glow Worm??

Stare at it??

Chew on its tail??

Push it away and chew on my fist instead???

Punch Glow Worm's Stomach??

Or smack it's face??

Boy, I just can't quite figure out what to do with this Glow Worm!!!

I am so pleased and proud to have been able to not only witness but to be a part of this historic event. I am a part of it, I am a citizen and I exercised my civic duty by voting.

I am HOPEful for a new and better future. I am HOPEful for the future of my son.
I want him to grow up in a world where anyone really CAN strive to reach their dreams.

And lastly, a quote that sums up this week - starting with Martin Luther King Jr. Day and today's Presidential Inauguration:

"Rosa sat so Martin could walk. Martin walked so Obama could run. Obama ran so our children can fly..."

Mommy Spoke Too Soon!

My big boy rolled over one more time this weekend!
He waited until Sunday afternoon when his Aunt Kelley was here so he could show her his new move!!

Yay!!! Now, if we can just get him to do it when we have the video camera on him....

A big weekend!!

Connor had a big boy weekend!

On Friday night he flipped over from his belly to his back! He only did it one time so far - but it's a sign of more things to come! Yay Connor!
It took a lot of work for him to flip himself over, and he gets very frustrated when he can't do it but if he keeps trying he'll be flipping over all the time!

And... later on Friday night while I was playing with him he started giggling. Not just his usual one burst of laughter -- but a real true giggle. It was the greatest. I can't wait to hear more giggles!

The Power of Words

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a running internal monologue as they do household chores. Well, sometimes, those internal monologues become something that I find sentimental, thought provoking or just plain old interesting.

Over the weekend I was trying to tidy up the bedroom while the baby was napping. I was actually thinking of a witty "Status Message" to post on Facebook (cheesy, I know). The things that popped in to my mind all revolved around using the phrase "my son". And that's when the power of words hit me.

MY SON. Connor is MY SON. Yes, I know, he's been my baby since he was conceived -- but how often do I ever stop to really think about it? Not often. I have so many cutesy names for him - but it all boils down to the fact that he is my son.

I can not explain the emotion that two word phrase evoked in me. It was so powerful and overwhelming that I just stopped and let it soak through me. Knowing he's my son is not about ownership because there are many things that are mine.

I think the phrase my son evoked such emotion in me is that regardless of how hard life gets sometimes, no matter how much I may get frustrated with work, money, or any other outside influences he is the one thing, the one thing in life that is truly, truly mine.

He shares my genes, my bloodline, my life... and he is the one in control. He is in control of my life, my love. Forever more I will do whatever it takes to make sure my son has the best life ever. We may not be able to give him riches, but we can give him safety, honesty, trust and love. And those are the things that no one else can give MY SON but me.

My 3 Month Old!

Can you believe it...I have a 3 month old!
He's getting SO BIG, So quickly!

At his 3 month "well baby" doctor's visit he weighed in at 14 lbs and measured 23 inches long!

What a happy, healthy baby boy we have!

He can sit up (assisted) pretty well now, lots of smiling, laughing and noise making. He notices faces, movement, sounds, oh...just about everything lately!

He has truly developed a wonderful, playful personality. I love him more and more every day.
