I passed!

Yesterday I had my Glucose test - which checked my blood sugar levels for the possibility of Gestational Diabetes.

After hearing such horror stories about this brightly colored orange drink - the worst part was getting the bottle to my mouth for the first sip! I heard how nasty it tasted, and "Good Luck!!" from numerous people that I figured I would gag the instant it passed my lips. The BEST advice I was given was to CHUG it - and take as few sips as possible! So, I did. I think I drank that 10 oz in 3 large sips and 1 little sip. It wasn't terrible. I mean, I would never be sitting around and think to myself 'Gee, I wish I could get a cup of that glucose drink' - but it didn't cause me to gag. It tasted like a super sweet, non-carbonated orange soda. <--- Looks delicious, eh?

However, I drank the drink- got my blood taken and passed! Yay! I don't have to take the 3 hour version of this dreaded test! Phew...

Please move your head.

A little bedtime tale from the world of the E family:

Last night, I spent a few minutes setting up my pillow configuration to try and ensure maximum sleeping comfort. I FINALLY got into bed and position - nice and cozy. Mr. E came to bed right after so we laid there chatting for a while when I suddenly let out a big "OUCH!".

Out of nowhere came this immense pressure and pain on my left side. I started rubbing my side and noticed that there was a really hard lump in the area where I was feeling all of this pressure. Clearly, Baby E was trying to make himself more comfortable - right into my organs!

I grabbed Mr. E's hand and told him to feel his sons head (or rump). After Mr. E had a chance to feel it I started lightly pushing against the spot to try and coerce Baby E to move in another position. Well, Mr. E told me to stop pushing on our sons head! I replied "You wouldn't like it if someone's head was crushing your organs" -

to which Mr. E responded "Yeah but how would you like it if someone just started tapping you and pushing you on top of your head?" (and then he proceeded to repeatedly bop me on top of the head to see how I liked it.)

Well, of course I didn't like it - but I also didn't like my baby's head jamming my sides while I was trying to sleep. So, in the future, Baby E if you could avoid from jamming your head against me like that I'd really appreciate it - and so would my head, since everytime I try to move you it seems your Daddy will try to bop me on the head in retaliation!

Nothing new...

Nothing much new to report.

I'm feeling pretty good - can't really complain! I'm finishing up my final week of the 2nd trimester. HOLY MOLY!

We DID add a fishtank to Baby E's room.
Thought it would be a really relaxing addition - its set up in the corner across from the crib, and straight ahead of the glider. A great thing for Baby E to look at as he gets older, and for Mommy & Daddy E to look at while holding the baby all those late nights!

Some stuff....

Well, there are a few things I felt the need to discuss today. Shall we begin?

1. My belly button. It is getting more shallow. I used to have a rather deep innie, now its more like a wading-pool deep innie. Therefore, I can only surmise that my belly button will continue to disappear - and soon become even with the rest of my stomach, or become an outie!

2. The baby - is kicking. A LOT.

3. The heat makes me want to kill people. I try not to. But, I can't always help it.

4. My rings (wedding & engagement) are no longer comfortable on my finger. They still fit and I can get them on and off without a struggle but they just feel tight and make me uncomfortable so we put them away. Hopefully, its just a result of the heat making me swell because my fingers don't look swollen - but I have a feeling thats the end of those rings for a few months. It's very weird not to wear them. When I wash my hands, or do the dishes I look down and worry "Oh my god where are my rings?!" .........Uh, oh yeah stupid, you took them off.

5. I STILL LOVE THE FRIENDLY'S WATTAMELON ROLL.

6. Here are some new pictures of me and my bump. (roughly 27 weeks pregnant!)

To Sleep or NOT To Sleep.

That is my problem.

This past week I've been having a terrible time sleeping. I'm not sure if its due to Mr. E and my experiment w/ switching sides of the bed (although, it may be) or just that I"m getting less comfortable...

Here is a typical scenario of my nights:

My hips hurt.
I'm too hot. (yes, the air conditioner is on)
My pillows don't feel right.
I move, get comfortable for a few minutes....
I fall asleep for a little while.
Then, I wake up to pee. (1 - 2x a night. Great.)
Go back to bed, try to get comfortable.
Then, my hips hurt.
I'm too hot (again)
The pillow, or blanket, or something else is wrong...
and I can't sleep!

Grrrrrr! Last night I actually got up after tossing and turning for quite some time and laid on the couch purely because I felt like if I didn't change my scenery I'd go insane! I did sleep for maybe 4 hours until I had to, of course, use the bathroom!!!!!

I JUST WANT TO SLEEP before Baby E comes and sleep will be a thing of the past!

Closing in on 26 weeks!

Month 6 lasts from Week 25-28. Once I reach 28 weeks, I am out of my Second Trimester! OH MY GOODNESS!!

On Wednesday I will reach my 26th week of pregnancy. 26 weeks! I feel baby kicking and moving VERY frequently now. In fact, Mr. E finally felt his baby boy kick!

Just a little update on Baby E's progress in the 6th month:

Let your spouse put an ear to your belly -- he might be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

Keep on growing Baby E! Mommy & Daddy are getting very excited to meet you in a few months!

Baby E's First Plane Ride

Ok, well maybe it doesn't actually count as his first plane ride since he technically is still part of Mommy E - but we have left NY and arrived in North Carolina!

I'm here all week for a training program that will hopefully make me a better teacher, and possibly, even a better parent.

I dont know if it was the jumbling around from all of the airplane rides yesterday or what but Baby E has been kicking up a storm today. (And I think I am feeling a case of the hiccups going on too. - Yes, you can feel them!)

Maybe, just maybe, he misses Daddy E.

I know Mommy E does. :)

Making a Birth Plan

Today was my monthly doctor's office visit. However, this time was different. We met to go over our birth plan. YES. Birth plan. As in, no I won't be pregnant forever, this baby is really coming because I'm halfway through my pregnancy!
The appointment went very well. We got a lot of information, facts, and ideas.
However, as the nurse was talking to us about epidurals, episiotomies and umbilical cords I felt my heartbeat raise a little bit. Not that this hasn't been "real" all along, but now we're getting down and dirty with the facts! It was just a little (ok, LARGE) reminder that Baby E is coming, and he'll be here before we know it!
